COVID-19 Update
Posted by Robert M. Birndorf in Corporate Law, Employment Law, on March 23, 2020COVID-19 has had a profound impact on the business world. Employers must adapt to the changing landscape as our communities and governments react to prevent the spread of COVID-19. On March 20, Illinois’ governor issued an order that requires many workers to stay at home. As a result, employers must assess whether they may continue operations because they are an “essential business” per the order. If not, employers must decide whether to cease operations or have their employees work remotely.
Additionally, employers should review their current policies on leave and telecommuting. Employers should also clearly outline expectations and protocol for their employees during this period. The following links offer useful guidance for employers to consider:
- U.S. Department of Labor’s guidance on COVID-19 and the Fair Labor Standards Act.
- U.S. Department of Labor’s guidance on COVID-19 and the Family and Medical Leave Act.
- U.S. Department of Labor’s guidance on Families First Coronavirus Response Act and its rights and requirements.
- U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s guidance on essential workers.
- OHSA’s guidance on preparing workplaces for COVID-19.
